GREETINGS ALL

Saturday and Sunday are going to be BIG!  Car count is well over100 entries and climbing fast.  Great racing in all groups is guaranteed.  Flaggers, volunteers, and spectators, this will be our biggest race weekend of the season and YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS IT!

FLAGGERS:

This will be your last chance before the Detroit Grand Prix to get in some of that practice time so recommended in Flagger School.  This time it (racing)will be the real thing.  You can never have too much experience...OR FUN!

-  It is highly recommended to sign in on MotorsportReg.  Since this is a DRSCCA/WHRRI event,  SCCA uses a SpeedWaiver system of registration that includes a selfie and an e-sign signature.  Nothing speedy about it but it gathers information accurately.

-  Race days mean TO sign in at Lena's AND park by Lena's as the paddock and surrounding areas will be filled with race cars.  Walk up to the pavilion and sign in with me (Ron) by 9:00am.  Team meeting will be at 9:15 sharp.  Have a donut.

-  Weather could be variable.  Dress in layers as appropriate. WHITE OR LIGHT COLORED TOPS (no reds).  Long pants and close toed shoes are mandatory.  Rain gear, sunglasses,a hat and sunscreen.

-  We will provide donuts, lunch, worker break ice cream and lots of water.

SUNDAY SPECIAL:    WE HAVE A NEWLY  DONATED  L.L.BEAN TRACK BAG THAT IS FILLED WITH GOODS TO GO RACING.  VERY EXPENSIVE.  SIGN A TICKET TO WIN.  YOU MUST BE PRESENT (on Sunday) TO WIN.  See it Saturday.

There WILL be a COOKOUT on SATURDAY after racing is done! The best in dogs, brats, and buggers will be ON THE GRILL. Bring a dish to pass or a small donation and be prepared to FEAST.

THIS NOTE goes out to a large number of past active or interested but non participating race fans and volunteers.  Let this be my PERSONAL INVITE to you to pick a day and revisit the track and see what a great group of people and racing that makes up the Waterford Hills experience.  You may be surprised.... JIFFY!

               Race #2   Sat.& Sunday   May 23 & 24th

Many Thanks

Alex Della Torre, Region Executive

Detroit Region SCCA

Hello fellow SCCA members and motorsport enthusiasts,

Spring is just around the corner—though the freezing temps outside reminds us we’re still very much in Michigan. And honestly, there’s no better place to be. As the home of the Motor City and a true hub of motorsports, we have a lot to be excited about.

Our 2026 calendar is packed, with more than 50 events spanning over 70 days of activity. No matter your discipline—Autocross, Rallycross, Road Racing, or Road Rally—there’s something for everyone. Even if you’ve hung up your driving gloves, you’re always welcome to spectate, connect with fellow enthusiasts, volunteer or join us for social events throughout the year.

On March 7th, we hosted our 2025 Awards Banquet—our largest social gathering of the year—with nearly 170 attendees. The evening celebrated our program champions and perpetual award winners, and featured the return of door prizes along with new raffle offerings totaling thousands of dollars. Guests also enjoyed a vehicle display and a motorsport art exhibit. Be sure to check out the full recap below.

Our driving schools are kicking off soon. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills or introduce a friend, family member, coworker, or neighbor to the sport, our upcoming schools provide the perfect opportunity to get behind the wheel and get up to speed.

With so much happening, I’ll let the articles that follow speak for themselves.

Before I close, one important reminder: this club doesn’t run on membership fees alone. It thrives because of the passion, commitment, and volunteer spirit of our members. For nearly 80 years, that dedication has fueled our events, our community, and our friendships. As we look toward the future, we’re always in need of new leaders and volunteers. If you feel ready to step up, we welcome you to the teams that make things happen.

Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to seeing you throughout the 2026 season.

Another Season to Remember

As the northern race season has closed, I'm hoping everyone had the opportunity to participate in the sport we all love this past year. While I personally was not able to attend as many races as I would have liked, I did enjoy being at the Detroit Grand Prix and a race at Waterford Hills.

It's now time to go through our personal equipment, discard what's not going to be needed, refresh anything that may need it, and replace that which has passed its useful life. My track bag is still in the trunk of my car, hoping for just one more race.

I hope each of you is enjoying this holiday season. Be safe, stay healthy and I look forward to seeing you at a nearby track and race in 2026.

The dates for the Detroit Grand Prix have been confirmed for the last weekend in May. As we receive confirmation of schedules for other series and tracks nearby, we'll post them on the MTM website, so stay tuned.

All the best,

Steve Balanecki
