Vigorous Flagging -I wanted to mention something to you that
might be a nice little snippet in the MTM newsletter. I was listening to
the Houston race on the CART Radio Network. They (I'm not sure who was
announcing the race)... were talking about the difference between a
stationary yellow flag, a waving yellow flag... and a vigorously waving
yellow flag... and what it means (the vigorously waving yellow flag means
the problem is HERE). Anyway... the announcers were
complimenting the workers and one of them brought up a Detroit race in the
past... and the incident of when someone we all know and love... was
waving that yellow flag so vigorously, he separated his shoulders!
:-) Yes, I have to
admit... I had a little chuckle.
Karen Rankey J Grand Rapids Y2K CancelledThe Y2K WMGP has been cancelled due to
lack of sponsorship! Many thanks have got to go to the
extraordinary efforts of Gordy Ensing for making a dream become a reality
in Western Michigan. Years of dedication and tireless effort made for
super excitement. The West Michigan Region F&C and the WMGP put on an
excellent show of appreciation of volunteers!
Brian Bennett L Rumors of the Future of MTMWe should decide the future of MTM as far
as direction and maybe ask membership. However I don't have a copy of the
by-laws so I don't know all the rules. Here are some THOUGHTS that have
been discussed: (But NOT by
the full board as has been suggested by some) 1. Continue as is. 2. Sell or give away the equipment
to Grattan, Gingerman, WMR, Detroit or Waterford. Then MTM would be a mailer
only 3. Same as above only gives it to
members after which MTM would be a mailer only. 4. Disband all together. 5. Find others to take over the
board and equipment. Also if we go that way, do we
provide a chief of event or just a mailer only?I know Phil had some ideas as well
and we should see what Gordy and Jason think. The reason I bring this up is many regions are done their round table and dates are becoming firm. I think it is wise to let regions know the level of our support. As well, let |
the members know. After seeing Willy's early
schedule, there are few if any events I can attend. Dave Johnston L [This is presented here NOT to panic but to inform
members of the ruminations that are afoot. The question was posed to some
members of the executive who HAVE
NOT formally discussed any course of action. Many creative minds will
be discussing this in the near future. Editor J ] Worker Gloves
Racer Wholesale has ceased to sell the
worker gloves, so we are a looking for a new source haven’t ordered any
yet, but according to an article in the November/December issue of GrassRoots
Motorsports, Bell Motorsports offers a pair of worker gloves at $13.45 US.
This is at their cost to manufacture. The part number is
563900090. You should call Bell at 800-669-BELL or go to their Website http://www.bellmotorsports.com/ The gloves are described as bright orange
with a deerskin palm.
Doug Mitchell
J Mustang Tour
Mike Pickett organized a tour of the Ford
Mustang production plant. The turnout was smaller than expected but that
even enhanced the opportunities to question our guide. Ray Bates, the engineer who orchestrates
the switchover to new model years, was our guide. Learning about how
smooth transition can be gives one a better understanding of the intense
teamwork that makes it happen. Over the years the changes in robotics in
the manufacturing process is amazing. Staff in the plant was like family
who were most willing to harass our guide while showing pride in their
work and product. Mike has two more tours for SCCA Detroit
members. Watch your e-mail and Open Exhaust for details. Each one has been
a super experience! Thanks Mike. Barb Coburn J SCCA CenDiv Roundtable
Western Michigan Region hosted the event
in Grand Rapids at the Travelodge on November 5, 6 &7, 1999. The usual battles were fought over scheduling. Check Willy Perez's first version of the 2000 racing schedule soon to appear online at http://www.concentric.net/~Tbateman/ Check your SCCA Region's publication for more information including the proposal to incorporate the Division. |
