PW = FSAE

The Formula SAE® challenges university teams to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with small formula-style, autocross racing cars.  Over the course of three days, the cars are judged in a series of static and dynamic events including: Design Presentation, Cost Presentation, Engineering Design, Acceleration and Skid Pad Performance, Solo Performance trials and Endurance Performance & Fuel Consumption.  The vehicles must also pass strict safety standards.

The competition began in 1981 in Texas and migrated to the Detroit area in 1988.  The series now includes three U.S. events – in Michigan, Virginia and California, and also smaller but equally exciting competitions in Australia, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.K.

1500+ students representing 110 teams from over 35 States and 10 counties will be competing this year at the Michigan International Speedway near Jackson.  Additionally, many of these teams will compete later in the year at SCCA Solo events across the country under the ‘A Modified/FSAE’ class.
