SSL (Secure Sockets Layer protocol) is a standard for transmitting confidential data such as passwords and credit card numbers over the Internet.  Most business sites support this feature which allows more security in data that is sent over the World Wide Web.

Most Internet browser programs, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera support SSL.  By convention, URL's that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http:
SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data − a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message.

You can verify that SSL is enabled by the checking your web browser for this correct URL and for the presence of a small  locked  padlock  near the URL on the top of the page.   You can click on that padlock to view the certificate security information.

On some critical web pages, the MTM website utilizes a   Shared SSL Certificate  key that is provided by our web hosting service,
HostExcellence (a division of Ecommerce Corp).  Shared SSL requires a dedicated URL (Uniform Resource Locator)  that is defined by the hosting service.  For our site, the URL is > https://michiganturnmarshals.c2.hostexcellence.com/

Additionally the MichiganTurnMarshals.org domain name has been certified by GoDaddy.com and this serves to verify that the domain registrant and the
WhoIs database contain accurate and valid contact information.  Click on the certificate in the upper left corner of this page for confirmation.
